That time of year has come again, and CEWIL Canada has put together some amazing webinars on a variety of career and WIL-related topics. We will be hosting 6 viewing parties with coffee and snacks in Building 255, Rm 205 over September, October, and November.

Join us for the first in this Coffee and Learn Series

Transforming the culture of learning at a large, traditional institution like the University of Ottawa requires vision, persistence, and a collaborative spirit. At the heart of this transformation are two foundational elements: the Experiential Learning (EL) Framework and the uOCompetencies.

Together, they provide the structure and direction for creating a cohesive, competency-based approach to education that spans both academic and extracurricular contexts. The EL Framework invites stakeholders to co-create accessible, high-quality programming, while the uOCompetencies define the transferable skills and knowledge students develop through experiential learning. These building blocks are seamlessly integrated into initiatives such as the In-depth Experiential Learning Stream (IELS)-a four-year, 30-credit EL experience; the Work-Study Program (WSP), which has evolved into a $5-million ecosystem supporting competency and professional development; and the upcoming Student-Led, Individually-Created Courses (SLICC), which empower students to design personalized learning journeys.

This workshop also highlights innovative tools like the My uOCompetencies APP, developed by students for students. The app enables learners to track and articulate their growth in a personalized EL portfolio while contributing anonymized data to the uOCompetencies Quantification Study. This study, alongside integrated data systems and PowerBi Dashboards, identifies gaps and measures progress, ensuring continuous improvement and accountability in our EL ecosystem. Attendees will gain an unfiltered look at how the uOCompetencies serve as the connective tissue uniting disparate EL initiatives into a cohesive strategy that transforms institutional culture.

Through real-world examples, collaborative design approaches, and data-driven insights, participants will leave with actionable strategies to embed competency-based learning into their own contexts. Join us to explore how a competency-driven EL ecosystem can drive systemic change, moving beyond program creation to reinvigorate the culture of post-secondary education.
