Oct 29, 2025 09:00 AM to 10:30 AM
Building 255 Room 205

Registration Deadline: Oct 29, 2025 01:44 PM

Dear VIU Faculty and Staff,

That time of year has come again, and CEWIL (our national organization for WIL) has put together some amazing webinars on a variety of career and WIL-related topics. We will be hosting 6 viewing parties with coffee and snacks in Building 255, Rm 205 over September, October, and November. See below for a description of the workshop topic:

Many organizations continue to be highly invested in hiring student and new grad talent in Canada. And as the light has shone brighter and brighter on Work Integrated Learning (WIL) over the past several years, new organizations are getting more active in the WIL space and others are hiring more students from more programs and more post-secondary institutions.

This is wonderful news for our students, WIL practitioners, the labour market and society in general. Many organizations are making changes to their recruitment/talent acquisition practices. WIL practitioners attending this session will hear about some of these changes and provide feedback about how these changes may, or may not, work well in helping the students that we support achieve their desired WIL experience. The focus of this session is on recruitment for paid WIL and practitioners involved in co-op as well as paid internship and work experience programs are the intended audience. Those who seek to stay informed on changing recruitment practices, and how these changes may impact their work, are invited to join this session and to contribute to the conversation.

Some topic areas we will endeavour to include are: Virtual and in-person employer brand building activities Talent identification strategies Candidate screening practices: GPA cut offs, target vs non target schools, pre-interview assessments The piloting and/or use of generative AI in the recruitment process by employer partners and what WIL practitioners have heard from students about the use of AI by employer partners The use of generative AI in the recruitment process by students and what employer partners have appreciated and not appreciated about this Pipeline posting processes and the use of rank and match by paid WIL programs Conversion programs from students participating in WIL to post-graduate programs.

This discussion panel will feature up to four organizations. Confirmed organizations at this time are RBC Financial Group, KPMG and Loblaws. The moderator will engage one additional organization involved in paid WIL to join the panel. After opening remarks, a moderated discussion on the topic will take place with the focus on recruitment processes as it relates to paid WIL. The opportunity to poll audience members on discussion points offered by panel members as well as time for questions from the audience will be provided to ensure a rich and engaging dialogue takes place.
