During Global Citizen's Week, this event will provide an opportunity for representatives from 4-6 employers to address a 3rd-year Political Studies class, as well as other VIU students that are interested in learning more about careers in the non-profit sector. This event would involve a panel discussion, where employers share their experience and industry insights, and a roundtable component - where groups of students cycle between employer's tables for 5-10 minutes to ask questions directly to each employer.
Come learn from organizations such as:
- Canadian Red Cross
- Central Vancouver Island Multicultural Society
- Island Crisis Care
- BGC Central Vancouver Island
- and more!
Questions for the panel discussion would be:
- What advice would you give to students looking to move into the industry, or into organizations similar to yours?
- What was some of the best career advice that a mentor ever gave to you?
- What do you see as some of the most valuable and employable skills that can be acquired by students?
- What are some of the simplest steps that students could take to make a positive change in their community?
Event Schedule:
- 4pm - 4:15pm: Welcome, Land Acknowledgement, Introductions
- 4:15pm - 4:45pm: Moderated Panel Discussion with employers
- 4:45pm - 5:15pm: Round table event, groups of students have 5-10 minutes at an employer's table to ask specific questions and meet the representative directly, before being directed to move on to the next table.
- 5:15pm - 5:30pm: Closing Remarks, Networking and Pizza
